The unique and natural
beauty of Canada’s
Bruce County and
Bruce Peninsula
provide endless
inspiration for Port
Elgin, Ontario artist
Peter Sheeler. I grew
up in Owen Sound at
the foot of what I
consider to be one of
the Bruce Trails most
beautiful sections. My
childhood was spent
hiking and exploring
its crevasses, cliffs
and forests.

"Kinglets and Chantry"
By far the most spectacular and rugged stretch of this
world-famous 773km hiking trail occurs in Bruce County. In
1990 the Niagara Escarpment was named a World Biosphere
Reserve by UNESCO. This ecosystem contains rare and
precious wildflowers, trees and ferns, unique or fascinating
rock formations defined on the east side by the strong,
turquoise-blue boundary called Georgian Bay.
I “picked up” my
first paintbrush in
October of 1988
experimenting with
a watercolour
pencil set I had
received as a gift
some years earlier.
Although these
first attempts left
much to be
desired, I loved the
creative process
and persevered.
Just one year later
I become a full
time artist.

Completely self taught and
working exclusively in
Watercolour, I prefer the softer
appearances achieved through
this medium. My style ranges from
realism to the more traditional
impressionism.

I do not like to rely on photographs
and therefore paint only the
indigenous wildlife of my area,
attempting to portray my subjects
accurately but not create a look of
photographic realism.
Along with originals my work is featured in Limited
edition reproductions, collector plates, calendars and
art cards and is held in private and corporate
collections throughout the world.
